Responsible homeowners everywhere always keep a mental list of everything around their home that needs attention, and many enterprising people save money by fixing the issue themselves.
However, the last thing you want is to exacerbate the problem, and with this in mind, here are four simple home maintenance issues that could turn serious. These issues often often need the attention of a specialist and one should be called out as soon as a problem arises to stop it from becoming serious.
- A Crack in the Glass
Firstly, if you are going about your morning business getting ready for a busy day at work and suddenly notice the smallest crack in one of the upstairs or downstairs windows, you may have put it out of your mind by dinnertime.
The truth is, however, one of the only reasons why this could occur (save, of course, for a bird with no sense of direction), is that the structure of your property itself is compromised. Such a blemish is called a ‘pressure crack’, and it is advisable to call a builder to conduct a full assessment.
- Holes in the Drywall
One of the simplest DIY jobs is to seal one hole or another with a material-appropriate sealant, and, as in the case of such areas as around the bathtub, for example, you are entirely correct in fixing the issue yourself.
However, if the small holes in a circle around each other are as tiny a diameter as 1/8 of an inch, this is more than likely a sign that your house may have an infestation of termites. Termites can cause serious damage to a building and should, therefore, never be ignored. Else the resulting chaos could include:
- Heavily stained walls and ceilings
- Buckling floors
- Hollow tunnels in the foundation
- Peeling and bubbling paintwork
- Caved-in ceilings
- Clogged Drains
Now, as with many home issues, something like a clogged drain can either easily be resolved or else could develop into a complete blockage in part or all of your plumbing systems.
Unless you can visibly see why the drain is clogged and, moreover, are able to clear the debris fairly easily, you should absolutely contact an established plumbing business that offers hydro flushing services and other relevant solutions.
- A Faulty Washing Machine Hose
Another exceedingly common issue within the home that many people bravely assume they can fix themselves is when the washing machine is not working properly and more specifically, when the hose is faulty or bulging.
High water pressure is usually, in one way or another, the culprit of a bulge or even a blockage in the hose as, over time, the rubber starts to lose structural integrity and softens considerably.
When you see a bulge, do not try and fix or replace the hose; instead, call for a professional plumber immediately. Most people simply do not realize the serious and costly damage a rupture washing machine hose can cause, including flooding the entire ground floor and irreparable damage to the walls.
