9 Symptoms of Chakra Blockage

The word “chakra” loosely translates as “wheel” from the Sanskrit language. These chakras are vortexes of energy located near important areas of our body. The various chakras recycle corresponding types of energies so that our physical and spiritual bodies can stay in balance. When these energies become blocked, the life force cannot flow freely. This results in symptoms of physical, mental or spiritual illness. We’ve compiled a list of the nine most common symptoms of chakra blockage. We explore this subject more in our Chakra Healing Course.

1. Root Chakra Blockage Symptoms

When the root chakra is blocked, patients develop conditions involving the lower part of the digestive system. A blockage at the first chakra may result in hemorrhoids, constipation or prostate problems. This blockage of the lower digestive tract can result in a lack of energy due to the body’s inability to absorb important nutrients and eliminate waste products.

The first chakra also regulates energy to the lower extremities of the body. A blockage here can cause arthritis, sciatica or bone diseases. Psychologically, a person with a blocked root chakra may suffer from anxiety. They might fear for their general safety or become worried that they will not be able to take care of their material needs. People with blocked root chakras often experience obstacles to providing for their basic needs such as an inability to earn money.

2. Sacral Chakra Blockage Symptoms

A blockage at the second chakra can provoke problems with the reproductive system such as menstrual difficulties or infertility. A blocked second chakra can cause problems with the urinary tract such as frequent infections or kidney stones. Patients often experience lower back pain. Psychologically, they may experience emotional instability, obsession, over-sensitivity or feelings of guilt. Addictions are often the result of a blocked sacral chakra.

3. Solar Plexus Blockage Symptoms

Patients with a blocked third chakra often suffer from digestive issues such as:

  • Liver problems- A blocked third chakra can cause the liver to be sluggish making it slower to filter toxins from the body.
  • Diabetes- Solar plexus blockage can affect the pancreas making it difficult to regulate insulin.
  • Gall bladder dysfunction: Gallstones or a reduction in bile production may result from the third chakra blockage.

A solar plexus blockage can slow the metabolism. Patients with a block here often experience low self-esteem, lack of courage or a sense of powerlessness.

4. Heart Chakra Blockage Symptoms

Heart disease, asthma, and other lung disorders can result from a blocked fourth chakra. A blockage here may cause issues with the lymphatic systems and the breasts. Afflicted patients may experience difficulties with giving and receiving love which causes them trouble in relationships. They may exhibit a lack of empathy and an inability to forgive others. Many of us spend most of our daily lives hunched over a desk or in an otherwise rounded position. A bad posture like this can cause blockages in the fourth chakra. There are some great yoga poses for opening the heart chakra.

5. Throat Chakra Blockage Symptoms

People with blocked throat chakras might have a chronic sore throat or an underactive thyroid. They can be timid in social situations or have other difficulties with communication. Sufferers of blocked fifth chakra may either feel frustrated in their inability to express what they mean, or they may express themselves in a harshly critical manner. Singing is an excellent way to unblock the throat chakra.

6. Third Eye Chakra Blockage Symptoms

Blockage at the sixth chakra can result in headaches, dizziness, nightmares and eye problems. Patients may suffer from depression. Artists with blocks at this chakra have a difficult time finding inspiration and feel creatively stifled. A block here can make it difficult for a person to develop psychic abilities and to trust intuition. Many people in the western world have somewhat blocked third-eye chakras. After many centuries of the demonization of psychic abilities and worship of reason, it’s no wonder that we have underdeveloped third chakras in the West. The repression of psychic abilities has become a matter of social survival. Luckily, things are changing, and we can now work to remove these sixth chakra blocks.

7. Crown Chakra Blockage Symptoms

A block at the crown chakra can lead to numerous neurological disorders including:

  • Alzheimer’s
  • Schizophrenia
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Sleep disturbances

People with blocked seventh chakras can have a hard time finding direction in life. Patients often also feel disconnected from their spiritual path.

Many chakra systems in the West omit the next two chakras which is unfortunate. These important chakras have an overall regulatory effect on the other energy centers of the body. This page provides a brief overview of a nine-chakra system.

8. Soma Chakra Blockage Symptoms

The Soma chakra governs the energies of the entire body. Seated in the forehead above the third eye, this chakra would be the seventh chakra in a nine chakra system. Symptoms of a blockage here include dehydration, stress headaches and dysfunction of the endocrine system. People with blocks in this chakra often find it difficult to connect with the Higher Self and spirit guides.

9. Kameswari Chakra Blockage Symptoms

Like Soma, the Kameswari chakra regulates the energies of the entire body. Blockages in this important energy center can cause other regulatory systems to become unbalanced. A block here will make it difficult or impossible for the sufferer to connect with cosmic energies.
