Baby Natural Hair: Wash Day With Born Curly

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of As I Am® Naturally. All opinions are 100% mine.

Baby Natural Hair Products + Pigtail Afro Puffs Twist Out Hairstyle @Sophistishe

I’ve been having a ball styling baby Akilah’s hair. I mean, I’ve enjoyed doing the boys’ hair (when they had it) as well, but with a little girl, I am able to get more creative. Her hair has grown sooo much. I never imagined having a little one this tiny with a full head of braidable, twistable, up-doable, rollable hair. When the boys were this age, they took after me. Well, I was a pretty bald baby and they had sparce curls at least. Miss Honey’s curls though? They are here to slay.

Her hair routine remains the same, but since the last time I’ve shared about her hair, I’ve started using a bit of oil since it has gotten thicker. The oil helps add that extra slip when detangling and keeps the frizz at bay.

While her hair routine hasn’t changed much, we have been using a new set of products by As I Am. We got to try their new Born Curly line specifically for babies and children. On wash day, we dove into our care package and Akilah’s hair has been laid and wafting of sweet vanilla frosting and shea butter ever since.

Now, I wouldn’t be excited about these products if they didn’t speak to my crunchy mama ways. And that, they do. Born Curly is actually the only hair product line for naturally curly kids (from birth to 10 years old) that are certified organic. They carry the NSF seal of approval, meaning that they’ve been tested by one of the most respected independent certification organizations of today. The NSF is held in high regard by consumers, manufacturers, retailers and regulatory agencies worldwide.

On an average wash day, I cowash baby Akilah’s hair with moisturizing cleanser and use shampoo in her hair once a month. The Born Curly Avocado Shea Cowash left her hair clean and moisturized. Since I recently shampooed her hair after a day at the water park, I’ll be saving the Aloe Shampoo & Wash for next month.

After washing her hair and getting her dressed, I applied the Argan Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler to her hair and let her lay down for a bit on her satin pillow case. Doing her hair is a challenge and when she’s cranky? Forget it. After some rest, I re-wet her hair using a spray bottle and applied Nourishing Hair & Body Oil as I sectioned and detangled her hair with a wide-tooth comb. I love that the oil doubles as a body moisturizer as well as the Shea & Cocoa Butter Balm, which I reserved for big brother Jayden’s seasonal Eczema.

I had to enlist the help of iPad nursery rhymes for entertainment. They served as a distraction that kept her from looking back, snatching, and examining all of the products as she would normally do. Instead, she chose to dance. Hey, you pick your battles. After detangling, I parted her hair with a rat tail comb and applied Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie to each section of hair before styling it into two pigtail puffs and bangs. I used a little Argan Curl Defining Jelly on her baby hairs/edges. To add some texture to her bangs, I did a quick twist-out, taking them down while partially dry.

She's sooo cute in curly. Baby's skin and hair are really sensitive so that choosing a right shampoo always confuses me. I'll check this HairBorn. Thanks for the share!
