The Busy Mom’s Guide to “Me Time”

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of PEOPLE®, StyleWatch®, InStyle®, and Sunset®. The opinions and text are all mine.

If you’re a mom, the phrase “me time” means hiding in the bathroom and pretending to pee (wait, do moms really get to pee alone?). Or, maybe it means taking a little extra time while running those errands because you know when you get home it’s going to be a mad house – just like it was when you left it! Me time is different for everyone, but as a mom, you probably know that it is important even though it doesn’t always take priority in your everyday life. Here are a few of my best tips for making time for yourself.

The Busy Mom’s Guide to “Me Time”

Remember why you love being a mom. It’s true, moms don’t have nearly as much free time as they did before they had kids. That doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying your life and living it to the fullest! Remember why you became a mom. Plan some activities with your kids, because you know mom guilt will kick in later when you finally do get some time to yourself. When you’re spending some time by yourself, remember how happy your kids were when you hung out with them.

Make a list of what takes up your time. Yes, that’s right. I want you to make a real list – a list of how you spend your time each day. Hour by hour, how are you spending your time? More often than not, we realize we are spending way too much time on social media and then saying “I don’t have any time to myself!”. We do have time to ourselves, we just have to prioritize it!

Delegate busy work to someone else. If you find that you are spending way too much time and energy on housework or hustling way too hard on your latest entrepreneurial pursuit, then it may be time to ask for or hire help. It may be time to have a cleaning service come in once or twice a month or have an assistant manage your inbox. While you’re at it, spring for a babysitter so that you can sneak out to do something just for yourself or sit in silence if you’re a homebody like me.

Make a wish list. My wish list includes sitting on a private island with my nose buried in StyleWatch, reading through my sunnies while wearing a banana leaf swimsuit. I flip through the pages of my magazine while my husband feeds me grapes. I’m sipping on a fresh coconut, and watching dolphins play in the sea. Then, I wake up. Welp, it was fun while it lasted…

Ok, make a realistic list. Though I might have to give up my island, I don’t have to give up my guilty pleasures like desserts and celebrity watching. I’ve been going through Wendy Williams withdrawals so for fun, I picked up PEOPLE and InStyle from my local Jewel-Osco. I know most magazines have gone digital these days, but there’s just something special about flipping through actual magazine pages that force me to unplug and take me to a happy place.

While I say that living a lavish lifestyle on an island is what I really really want, it’s more of a fantasy than anything. I love my life (and my tiny humans!) and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I won’t lie, though, I enjoy picking out outfits in InStyle for imaginary dates and parties, as if I have an unlimited budget (and a social life). The best part? I can copy many of those looks for the low low when I do have some place to go go. *giggle*

Through 10/18/16, you can join me and enjoy your favorite magazines, too! Head to your local participating Jewel-Osco, Safeway, Pavilion, Tom Thumb, Vons, Randall’s, Shaw’s, Carr’s, or Acme Market to get $1 off PEOPLE, InStyle, StyleWatch or Sunset magazine too through Just for U or MyMixx, while supplies last.

Moms need their own little escape, and magazines like these are mine. What’s yours?

Since having babíe, I haven't had much time for myself. I find the way out from your post. It encourages me a lot. Thanks so much!

Great ideas. Sometimes, I really need some spare time for myself before coming back as a mom. Thank you for the helpful post. Thumbs up.

I indulged myself a me time last Saturday and gave a healthy and beauty treat because I deserve it, every woman and Mom does.

I have started staying up later to have me time. I am a little tired in the mornings but it is so worth it to stay up 30 minutes later and enjoy a book.

Me time is so important!

Now I want some ice cream. And a People magazine.
