Keeping The Tot Busy This Winter

IMG_4080

So far we’ve had a pretty mild winter and we aren’t exactly clawing to get out of the house from cabin fever… yet. Knock on wood. We haven’t gotten any crazy snow, but the temps are still cold enough to be a deterrent from our favorite outdoor activities. Winters are usually long and draining here in the Midwest, so I’ve been trying to replenish our art supplies so that we can get to crafting. I’ve been slacking in the arts and craft department and the boys have become BFF’s with their tablets. I feel no shame nor guilt because we all go through those seasons where we have to let go of one thing for another.

The boys got some fun kits and supplies over the holiday to keep them busy. Now that things have settled a bit, we can finally pull them out. On a whim, I decided to revive an old blog of mine to share all of our simple projects and then some. We are all busy and vulnerable to distractions, so my goal is to keep everything short, simple, and straight to the point. No rambling, chunky paragraphs, and carrying on like I am now. 😉

Juicy has been helping himself to the art supplies lately. He’s been enjoying some coloring and finger painting. To encourage creativity, we keep a roll of art paper on our chalkboard kitchen table for easy access, but it’s been more of a centerpiece than anything up until the last week or so. I got out our Eco-Kids finger paint to reduce Juicy’s screen time. He put up a mini protest, but quickly went to work once he saw the paint set up for him.

You know your child hasn’t had enough messy play when they become upset over dirty hands, haha. I had to reassure him that his messy hands were fine and I encouraged him to keep painting.

Once he had enough of mess-making, he requested to wash his hands. I find it so much easier to clean his hands with paper towels than setting up at the sink. I just squirt a bit of hand soap on a towel, wet it, and let him wipe away. SCOTT® Brand Choose-A-Sheet Paper Towels are cut in halves to eliminate waste. I love being able to tear off smaller sheets at a time for smaller messes like Juicy’s little hands. Since we go through quite a bit of paper towels, the Mega Roll bonus packs are great for us especially during winter hibernation, haha.

My daughter loves to paint. We paint all kinds of objects and paper too. If you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up, she'll say she wants to be an artist.

My children are adults now but they always enjoyed painting and decorating the house with wreaths they made. They also enjoyed finding pine cones and decorating them.
