Cannabiz Ideas You Can Do From Home

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to launch a business from an office or another type of premises. It takes a lot of finance and time to do so – but if you have that ‘I am ready to own a business’ itch in the cannabis industry, here are a couple of cannabiz options that you can do from home.

Note: just because you run the business from home doesn’t mean you can skip any of the rules and regulations that would apply to another office or store-based cannabis business, so understanding the law or hiring a good cannabis lawyer is a start.

Cannabis Marketing

Just like any other business, cannabis companies, big and small, all need great marketing. The trick is, though, that marketing cannabis is a fine art. You’ll need to understand the product you’re talking about fully and adhere to all and any marketing regulations.

For many entrepreneurs, marketing is one of the most difficult parts – they know what they have, they know what they want to say, and who they want to say it to – but the message gets muddied and messy. Bad graphics, poor wording, and more can kill a brand before it has a chance to thrive.

If you have a flair for social media and don’t mind the time it takes to build a good marketing plan, then this can be a great business. Not to mention that the market, along with CBD, is thriving and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Crunch Numbers

Sure, you are better to have some sort of formal qualification for accountancy – but sometimes, if you are great with numbers, you can get by without one. Just like marketing, accounting, and keeping business finances in order can be tough for a small business, but if you are there to take charge, it will be a lot easier.

You’ll need a head for numbers but also a keen eye for opportunities. Often, the finances of the business will show some things that could be done better and where the company is making money – or not. The right accountant can keep costs low and revenue high and come up with a lot of great information.

If you are interested in moving forward with this type of business, there are courses online that you can do for free that can help you to learn the basics and get you job ready. Many people who are already great with numbers can complete these courses quickly.

App

For almost all businesses, there is an app for that – as the tagline goes. And the cannabis industry is no different. The app idea could be anything from helping people find dispensaries to a guide to the right strains for different situations. A lot of apps get purchased by much bigger companies, and that will free you up to move on to your next idea.

Often, if you think you need an app for something, other people will be looking for something like it, too.

Perhaps one of the things about apps that many people don’t know is that you don’t need to know coding to be able to build an app. There are a lot of app-building software that are click and drag.

Before you start playing with a piece of software that might have a cost attached after the free trial, it is a good idea to start planning the app on paper. Draw out what each page should show, where the menu might go, and more. Visualization is a powerful tool.

Apparel

Not everyone wants to work completely on computers – although some level of computers will come into this one – you might want to create apparel like t-shirts, hoodies, and bags. There is a big market for clothing that is from a small business and isn’t in the usual fast-fashion bracket.

With apparel, you don’t need to be directly involved with cannabis, but you do need to have an understanding of the specific audience that you are trying to reach.

There are a couple of options for apparel, too – you might want to set up a print space in your home and handprint everything you sell, or you might prefer to have a print-on-demand business. Both can be very successful – and sometimes it can be a good idea to have both running at the same time – if you can manage to balance the marketing for both.

Apparel also doesn’t have to just be clothing and bags; you can be like Seth Rogan and make delightful pottery in the form of ashtrays and other fun things.

Catering

While this one will require you to leave the house from time to time, you can do much of what you need to do in a home kitchen – so long as it is up to code. There are even shows that are dedicated to cooking with different strains. You can get creative in the kitchen and come up with your own recipes, and you could choose to have either pick-up or delivery. You’ll need to make sure that this is completely legal in your state and that you have all the health and hygiene certificates, too!

Starting a business from home in a lucrative and thriving niche like cannabis can be the start of a long and happy career doing something that you enjoy – without having to leave your home and sit in an office (unless you really want to!). And it is good to keep in mind that there is a lot of room for scope in this industry, with more states and countries adjusting their rules on cannabis. And if none of the above ideas strike you, then one area that is seeing a lot of investment and buyers is the beauty industry – with both skincare and makeup being packed with skin-loving ingredients. If none of these take your fancy, but you still want to make some money from home, here are a couple more great options: Three ways to make a side income.
