Akilah’s hair is growing and getting so thick. I’ll admit, I wasn’t ready for little girl hair. I’ve always been simplistic when it comes to beauty, so elaborate styles aren’t my thing. Effortless should be my middle name. I find myself brushing and detangling Miss Honey’s hair more often than I ever did with the boys because she has more hair than they did at her age and folks would be looking at me crazy if I didn’t lay those edges and keep those curls fleeky fresh.
I like to think that she gets her hair from Daddy because I was as bald and Mr. Clean as a baby. They say that girls take after their fathers and boys take after their mothers. Both of the boys’ hair fell out by five months… so did my edges, but baby Akilah has shed nary a hair and my edges are still in tact.
Beyoncé’s baby hair and afros statement broke the internet as all the mamas of curlies rejoiced in a celebration of natural hair. Akilah’s hair is the epitome of baby hair and afros. She’s got a head full of curls, a widows peak, and wispy bangs to match.
We’re seven months in to this baby girl hair grooming and we’ve got ourselves a routine. In the last few weeks we’ve added some new products to her hair routine. Carol’s Daughter, a natural hair care brand that has been around since ’93 is coming to Walmart stores. Since I’m a part of the Walmart Moms team, we received a hair package of Carol’s Daughter products to try.
Carol’s Daughter products were the very first natural hair products that I tried when I decided to go natural ten years ago. As a broke college student, I couldn’t keep up with purchasing the products way back when. Now that Carol’s Daughter products are easily accessible at Walmart and tailored to my grown-mama-of-three budget, I’m willing to start buying them again.
The Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk products work wonderfully in Akilah’s hair and they smell so good. The products leave a lingering scent of freshness. I can’t help but to sniff her little head all day long. The Hair Milk line is made to perfect curly hair and prevent frizz and we can attest to that. We start off by co-pooing with the Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner. Akilah’s hair is prone to tangles so we always need to detangle, especially in the back where it tends to matte due to her laying on her back and shaking her shimmies. After washing, we go in with the Hair Milk 4-n-1 Combing Creme. The slip is excellent. It allows me to glide through those tangles without upsetting her.
After detangling, we use the Hair Milk Styling Pudding for increased moisture and curl definition. For everyday maintenance, we refresh her hair wigs with the Hair Milk Refresher Spray and style with the Hair Milk Leave-In Moisturizer until wash day comes back around. I try to wash her hair every week or week and a half to keep it fresh and tangle-free.
I’m very pleased with the Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk line. I love that it’s light, non-greasy and keeps Akilah’s curls moisturized and frizz-free. Being able to grab the products at my local Walmart at an affordable price point is much appreciated by this no-frills mama.
As a participant in the Walmart Moms Program, I’ve received samples and compensation for my time and efforts in creating this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Your daughter is freaking adorable. I've seen Carol's daughter products everywhere and I've still not tried them. I need to check them out. My daughter has hair down her back and it is a chore to do every week.
