I cannot pinpoint the last time Greg and I went out. Alone. I suppose it was maybe two years ago? For three years we’ve been waiting on the opportunity to get back into the groove of things. Parenting can be so exhausting at times, but perhaps we could have tried harder to do more for “us”. Two weeks ago, we did just that.
Jayden went to visit with his great grandmother and Greg and I headed to Inman’s in Valpo. The place was empty and we got to play a round of miniature golf (bass ackwards), ride go-karts and paddle boats at our leisure! It was like the perfect first date destination, only we were married parents looking for a safe haven. We giggled about looking “new” and wondered if anyone there could tell that we were wed with an offspring.
I beat Greg in go-karts up until it was time to yield. I guess I had the advantage since my kart was parked in front of his. I felt like Princess Peach in Mario Kart and Greg was exhibiting Bowserlike behaviors trying to run me off the road. Ha!
During our stroll down the mini golf course, we lost golf balls and ignored all the rules.
We held the golf club incorrectly and took too many turns. Did silly things too.
We saved the paddle boats for last because we knew we would get wet. Those things are hard to navigate. We got stuck in the fountain and were drenched! The perfect ending to a date!
We had such a great time on our date, we promised to remember and celebrate “us” more often.
