So I thought I’d play around with the My Cycles app on our Whirlpool Duet washer. Up until now, we haven’t really needed to do so. We had some pillows that were in need of a deep cleaning. I couldn’t dare put clean pillow cases on seasoned (nicely put) pillows, so it was time for them to head to the Duet for some pampering.
I created a cycle called “Dirty Pillows” now renamed “White Pillows” which combines both the Bulky and Whitest Whites cycles. I poured some bleach in the bleach compartment, started my custom cycle, and waited for our pillows to transform from dirty to white. Yes, we use bleach from time to time, anything else renders dingy garments.
While creating the custom cycle, I started to wish that the control panel had a touch screen. Before getting the Duet pair, I actually assumed that they were going to be touch controlled. I normally wouldn’t have to scroll through the alphabet while doing laundry, so it isn’t a major concern.
After an hour and thirty minutes (give or take a few), our pillows were stain free. I tossed them in the dryer on the Bulky setting for pillows and they were fluffy fresh. I don’t know what it is about having fresh linens and pillows, but it sure is a happy feeling.
Oh, and speaking of “cleaning before each load”… I just looked at the lint trap in the photo above… I ran my first Affresh cycle and did a wipe down with Grit Grabber cloths. The cloths are for wiping the nooks and crannies where buildup may have accumulated. The Affresh wipes and tabs aren’t a necessity and other methods of cleaning may certainly be used, but are probably not recommended. I hear Tang works wonders and I’m sure a microfiber cloth would get the job done. Just use your best judgement :).
Do you have a regular maintenance routine for your washer and dryer? If you could create your own custom laundry cycle, what would it consist of?
I wrote this post while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review. Read my full disclosure policy here.
