Be Fearless by Trying a New Craft; Diy Bath Bombs

This post is sponsored by Nickelodeon. As always, all opinions are my own.

What would you say to your younger self? I would say “Self, live fearlessly.” This is a lesson I’m committed to instilling in Kiki on her journey to greatness. We’re loving Nella the Princess Knight on Nick Jr. because she breaks barriers, challenges expectations, and fights for justice on each of her adventures. Nella’s an example to Kiki and little girls everywhere as she always stays true to herself through determination, power, and courage. Watch Nella the Princess Knight weekdays on the Nick Jr. channel.

I’ve been on a mission immersing myself in self-work so that I can be the example that she needs. The last few months have been incredibly tough, forcing me out of so many of my comfort zones. Every once in a while a quote about comfort finds its way down my timeline nagging me with frustration and truth. What quote might that be? “Success is outside of your comfort zone.”

The quote pops up when I least expect it. I roll my eyes and let out a sigh… not realizing that I’m very much out of my zone of comfort already. I realized that there are many forms of comfort zones, and well, life has been forcing me into the things that I thought were incompatible with my personality and lifestyle. I’ve learned that everything that I’ve been running from and avoiding is what’s meant for me. I’ve been getting signs that I need to focus on helping others by working in a group setting and serving a community. It’s a little perplexing, as someone who shares both a curiosity for people and fear of people at the same time (energy overwhelm). But if this is my purpose, everything will align.

Living fearlessly, trying new things, and being open to change and failure is a surefire way to challenge the comfort and thrive in life. These are the things that I hope I pass down to Kiki as I evolve. And when I fall short? I’ll look to my village. I’ll expose her to positive images that she can relate to. Nella inspired us to be fearless and try something new; DIY Bath Bombs – a craft that was definitely intimidating for me to make with a toddler. Kiki is all about bath goods and unicorns so we set out to create rainbow themed bombs (expectation) but abstract looking bath bombs became our reality since I flubbed the recipe and had to improvise. This activity taught us that you may not get the results that you expect the first time around, but practice makes perfect. Bath Bombs can be made mostly of ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. Stored in a glass jar, adorned with a custom tag, you have yourself a royally awesome gift.

What You Need

1 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Citric Acid
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
1/2 cup Corn Starch
2 1/2 tbsp. Oil (We used melted shea butter)
3/4 tbsp. Water
2 tsp. Essential Oils
Food Coloring
Mixing Bowls
Bath Bomb Mold

Instructions

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk dry ingredients together. In a small mixing bowl, mix your wet ingredients together… excluding the food coloring.

Slowly add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and quickly mix with your hands until the mixture is the consistency of wet sand. If it feels too gooey or dough-like, you need to add more dry ingredients; cornstarch or baking soda.

Next, separate your mixture into small bowls and mix in just a few drops of food coloring. If you add too much like I did, you’ll have to add in more dry ingredients. If the mixtures are too moist, they’ll stick to the molds and break apart.

Create the design you’d like by packing different color mixtures into your mold. Fill each side of the mold and pile on more mixture to create an overflow and aid in helping the two halves stick together. Firmly press halves together and gently remove mold to reveal your gorgeous new bath bomb.

Once your bath bombs are molded, let them set out for 24 hours are place them in the oven that has been preheated on 170 for 40 minutes.

Hope you enjoyed this fun DIY. If you decide to make bath bombs with your princess, I’d love to see them! Feel free to at me on social media or post a link to your creation in the comments.

I love this. Oddly enough, doing (potentially) messy projects with my kids is very far outside out of my comfort zone. I am a neat freak and a control freak. These are things that I've really been working on to improve so a project like this would be perfect for me and I know that my kids would love it. Great post!

I live fearlessly by not listening to those who don’t support you. Stay strong in mind, stay in the path of greatness.
