Easy Churros With Chocolate Dipping Sauce

Churros

disclosure

I absolutely LOVE Mexican cuisine. In all of the Mexican dishes I’ve tried and whipped up, I noticed a pattern. They are all savory. With Cinco de Mayo approaching, I decided in addition to some savory yummies; beef enchiladas, grilled corn, and guac, I’d make a dessert… Churros. I didn’t realize how easy they are to make. In fact, I see us making them often. It’s always exciting to discover how simple a delectable commodity is to make at home. Being able to enjoy such treats at our convenience certainly is satisfying.

Let’s get started…

Some things to note; you’ll need a strong pastry or ziplock bag. I used Wilton pastry bags and doubled them because the first attempt resulted in a busted bag. If your hands tire easily, you may want to call some man hands into the kitchen for help :). All ingredients, sans man hands can be found at Walmart :-).

Ingredients

For the churros
1 cup water
2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 quarts oil for frying

1/2 cup white sugar, or to taste
1 tbsp cinnamon

For the chocolate sauce:
3 1/2 ounces dark chocolate morsals
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

For the churros
Combine water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.

Heat 2 quarts oil to 375 degrees F. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil using a pastry bag and large star pastry tip.

Fry churros until golden and drain them on paper towels.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.

For the chocolate sauce:

Warm heavy whipping cream in small saucepan. Be careful not to let it boil. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and stir until consistently creamy.
