Holding On To The Teeny Diaper Days

I can’t believe that my little pixie princess is five months old! In some strange way I’m excited to see her grow up. Well, maybe not too much, but juuust enough for her to start toddling around. I know how crazy that must sound. What mama is ever ready to start baby-proofing and chasing, and in my case, a third time around?

I think part of my desire comes from finally having a girl after having two boys. I’m excited to see her personality blossom and how she interacts with the boys. The reality of baby Akilah toddling around and running things will be here soon enough, but until then, I’ll cherish her soft baby cries when she wants to be held, her Mariah Carey whistle notes whenever she’s excited, and the teeny little diapers that she is still able to fit into.

Unlike her big brothers, Akilah is long and lean. Her little legs are just a growing, right on out of her footie PJ’s. She definitely takes after Daddy. He was a leggy baby and I was on the stocky side. Since Akilah isn’t as chunky as her brothers were when they were babies, one thing has remained the same for a while; her diaper size. Her slim waist and tiny heiny are keeping her in a size 1, which isn’t so bad since the smaller sizes are sold in larger quantities. I will gladly take an extra 16 diapers, thank you very much.

Huggies Little Snugglers diapers have been a part of our diapering routine. I can stuff so many of the size 1’s into our diaper caddy if I arrange them sideways. In the wipes dispenser, we have Huggies Natural Care wipes on deck. Their triple clean layers are so gentle on her delicate skin. I especially love how the Little Snugglers waistband fits and contours to her body ensuring that everything that belongs inside… stays inside. The wetness indicator keeps us from guessing whether she’s taken a tinkle or not.

Funny story. It wasn’t until Jaxon was almost two that I realized that diapers had a wetness indicator. I had gone about seven years of parenting without knowing about that little strip down the middle of the diaper. But I don’t feel bad because Greg didn’t know either and he has changed plenty of diapers. I recently asked him if Akilah was wet and he couldn’t tell. I told him to tell me what color the strip was on the diaper and he was just as astonished as I was when I figured it out. For those who don’t know, there’s a yellow strip on the diaper that turns blue when baby is wet. Pretty neat, huh? Surely we aren’t the only ones who were slow to catch on. *face palm*

Infanthood goes by so fast. I can’t wait to see who baby Akilah becomes, but for now I’ll hold on to the teeny diaper days.

There she is! So adorable. I am with you on the smaller sizes because the box carries more diapers! Unfortunately my JuiceE is already up to size 4 at 9 months. LOL.

So adorbs! While I don't have kids of my own, I've changed my fair share of nieces and nephews (by marriage and by friendship) diapers. And there's something about that moment after you finally get that fresh diaper on that's so sweet. It's like you and baby are relieved! Cute post :)

So I'm not the only one who gets that feeling after changing a diaper? I enjoy changing diapers as long as they're not pooplosions! LOL

OMG look at that little princess! I still have my kids' newborn diapers (one as a keepsake for each) and I can't believe how quickly time flies! They are now 4, 6 & 8.

Hey Sheena, I was slow with all things parenting and knew nothing about kids. I was the only child in my immediate and extended family. Hubbs had to take the lead when my daughter was born. I've on a bit now, lol!

I'm an only child, too and honestly didn't see myself having kids until I started reading Mommy Blogs at 19. Thanks to the internet, I was able to prepare ahead!

It has been years since I have had to use diapers, but Huggies were always my FAVORITE! Because of the stripe, because they came in smaller sizes and were more absorbent that the other brands. My first baby girl was only 18.5 inches long at birth and at the time they were the only brand to carry newborn sized diapers. She's 11 now. And I still love Huggies! LOL
