It can be really difficult to follow the latest fashion and beauty trends when you are a mother and you are also working full time. However, when you get the time, you certainly want to look your best at work, when you are out and about, or even when you are in the comfort of your own home. So, if you are a working mom and don’t have a lot of time to read through fashion magazines, you can use this simple list of Fall 2019 fashion trends the next time you go shopping:
For the Sophisticated Mother at Work:
- Stretchy Blazers
Blazers remain a fall staple for working women for a good reason – they can dress up nearly any outfit in a second. A great blazer can upgrade a regular sleeveless dress to career wear, or it can instantly spiff up a tee-shirt, jeans, and boots. Also, with the new stretchy materials that have been seen on 2019 runways, blazers are now more comfortable than ever, and you can invest in one without worrying about gaining a few pounds in the future.
- Popover Blouses
Popover blouses are cute, yet wearing one doesn’t scream that you are desperately trying to relive your twenties. They are an alternative to the traditional button-down work blouses since the buttons do not go all the way down to the waistline. They work well with both skirts and slacks and fall just the right way to cover any tummy roll that you may be worried about.
- Pencil Skirts
Pencil skirts this fall are not the typical fare that you have seen on and off for the last few years. They have a much lower waistline, so wearing them means that you won’t feel like a piece of meat entrapped in a casing. Many of them also feature elastic-back waists! This is just another example of the fashionable plus size clothing that we have been seeing more of as Fall 2019 approaches. It just goes to show that regardless of your body type, there are fashionable clothes out there for all working mothers!
For the Glamorous Mother on the Go:
- Silky Sleeveless V-Necks
An open V-neck tunic in a pseudo-satin material is a perfect addition to the busy mother’s wardrobe. It looks just classy enough for when the neighbors stop by, or for when you’re out doing errands, but it’s not too fancy to walk the dog or cook meals for the kids.
- Sheath Dresses
Sheath dresses lay just perfectly under a cardigan or blazer. However, the version with capped sleeves and pockets works well on its own as an autumn 2019 go-to. While the bodice fits a bit snugly, the frock simply falls straight down from the shoulders and blossoms out more towards the waist and past your hips, meaning it works best on moms with a pear or hourglass body shape.
- Trench Capes
A cool new look for fall is what is being dubbed the “trench cape.” It looks just like the traditional trenchcoat, even down to the customary khaki coloring, but it has no sleeves and drapes over your body like a cape. It’s classy, yet casual, and is definitely the most interesting piece we have seen so far this season.
For the Mom at Home – the Domestic Diva:
- Striped Boatneck Longsleeved Tees
These shirts are simply-designed, but really cute, while still exuding the maturity that comes with motherhood. Placed over solid, like-colored yoga pants or leggings, you have the perfect ensemble for fall yard work. After all, nothing says “fall” like raking leaves with the kids and watching them jump headfirst into the pile!
- Double Knit Tees
A little dressier than your average tee shirt, these cotton crew cuts are comfortable and cool, and they stretch and move with you as you’re cooking, cleaning and chasing your children around the house. They come in nearly every color of the rainbow and look really cute paired with your favorite skinny jeans and sneakers.
- Elastic-waist Jeans
Speaking of jeans, we know they are not every mom’s cup of tea. After pregnancy, and as we age, it can be difficult to permanently eliminate that extra fat around our middles. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t be fashionable, and skinny jeans are on trend for Fall 2019. That is why we are happy to announce that many designers have introduced elastic-waist skinny jeans!
In conclusion, being a working mother doesn’t mean you have to compromise your looks. If you build a wardrobe using the right basic pieces this fall, you are sure to be able to assemble some mature but current looks that will accentuate your natural, age-appropriate beauty.
