Giving Your Pooch the Best

Having a dog is a lifelong commitment. You’re going to be responsible for this creature’s health and happiness for the duration of the entire time they’re with us. For some dogs, this could be up to 20 years even! They’re going to be entirely dependent on you and it’s going to be up to you to give them everything they could ever want or need. Of course, you’ll be rewarded for this with a lifelong companion who will love you unconditionally and provide constant entertainment. But what can you offer your dog to provide them with the best lifestyle possible? Here are a few suggestions to get the ball rolling!

Grooming

Different dogs have different needs in regards to their fur. Hairless dogs will barely require any grooming, as will dogs who naturally shed their fur. But dogs with non-malting fur, curly fur or more thick and dense fur may need a little assistance when it comes to keeping on top of their fur. This is where grooming comes into play. Most dogs will simply need a shower or bath when they get a little muddy, but breeds with more high maintenance locks will need professional grooming up to two times a month. Look around for a renowned and well recommended groomer to take care of this!

Walks

Every dog needs to be walked. Again, different breeds have different needs. Some dogs, such as working dogs, will need long hours of outdoor playtime and exercise. Others will only require a brisk walk that keeps them in shape. If you’re unsure of your dog’s individual needs when it comes to walking, consult your vet, who will be able to give personalised recommendations.

A Good Diet

There are countless types of dog food out there. Some are cheap, some are expensive, some are nutritionally devoid, some are highly nutritious. Make sure to read up on all the different types and settle for the best within your budget. Again, your vet can make recommendations if you need. You may find that if your dog has allergies or sensitivities, you’ll need to get specialist foods, such as grain free dog food. You should also throw a healthy amount of treats in. You can even try homemade options, like homemade pumpkin dog treats.

A Bed

Every dog should have their own bed. There are plenty of designs out there to accommodate all shapes and sizes. Try browsing different options and settle for one that will be comfortable for your four legged friend. This will give them their own space to relax and snooze in.

A Harness and Lead

In the past, most people would walk their dog with a lead attached to their collar. However, nowadays, many people opt for a harness instead. This reduces your dog pulling at their neck and is also more safe and secure, making it less likely that your dog can slip from the lead and be loose. There are plenty of options out there, so make sure to measure your dog well and try different harnesses on to see which suits them best. Stretch leads can often be a good option for allowing your dog to walk further onto the grass.

These are a few suggestions that should get you off to a good start when it comes to providing your dog with everything they need!
