As a parent, naturally, you want to ensure that your children grow up to be as healthy and happy as possible, which is where clean eating comes into the equation. Studies have shown that children who are fed healthy, wholesome, clean diets from a young age, tend to grow up to make better dietary choices and have a healthier relationship with food in general.
Bearing that in mind, it’s important that from a young age you encourage your children to eat a clean, healthy diet. Of course, the question is: how can you go about doing that and what foods should be involved?

Be mindful of what they drink
Whatever you do, don’t let your little ones drink sugar-filled squashes and juices; as once your little ones have a taste for something it can be hard to wean them off it. Instead, encourage your children to drink water as their go-to hydration source. You can make water more ‘fun’ by diffusing fresh fruit into it, should you need to give them a little inspiration. You could also try them on coconut water – a healthy drink packed full of flavour. Coconut water for babies, toddlers and children can be a healthier drink of choice, rather than opting for a fizzy drink or sugar-packed juice drink.
Lead by example
As a parent, it’s essential that you lead your children to healthy living by example. If your little ones see you eating and drinking unhealthy foods and drinks, then the chances are that they are going to think that this behaviour is normal. Instead, opt to lead by example and follow a healthy, clean diet yourself, always choosing to reach for healthier snacks, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, rather than junk food, is a good example to set. As is being able to say no when something unhealthy is handed your way.
Cook from scratch
Another crucial element of raising healthy children is to show them the value of cooking from scratch. It’s not just about cooking fresh meals from scratch, although this is important, it’s also about taking the time to bake desserts from scratch. This way, you can show your little ones that by choosing to bake from scratch, and knowing exactly what has gone into a recipe, you don’t have to miss out on having treats. You could also encourage your little ones to bake along with you, teaching them a number of key cooking skills to help support their healthy futures.
