Holiday Craft: Easy DIY Wreath

031_1

Confession. We are just now taking down our Halloween decorations and swapping them for holiday decor. Kinda pathetic but the fact that we’re putting up holiday decor now balances it out I think. I had an excuse anyway :-).  So each year, I try to do something new when it comes to decorating. Last year, I purchased real garland and decorated our stairs and credenza.  I absolutely loved the look and smell so much that I’ve decided to use real garland every year… especially since we have an artificial tree.

This year, I decided to do a little something to our front door since it is always bare. I made a small, 24 inch wreath to spruce it up a bit. I’ve made wreaths before (5 years ago), so it was fun to shop for supplies and create something lovely again.

Creating a wreath is very simple and depending on your skill and creativity, you can have an inexpensive decorative piece that can’t be found anywhere else. Let me show you how I created mine.

DIY Holiday Wreath

Materials

Wreath – $4
Wreath picks/clips – $1.27-$1.47/each
Bird Glass Ornaments (didn’t use) – $5.98

All items can be found on page 5 of the Walmart Christmas catalog and Christmas Shop.

Instructions

1. Spread out and fluff the wreath’s branches.

2. Lay picks/clips out on the wreath to visualize your design.

3. Stick picks through wreath, wrapping ends around the wreath’s wire base.

4. Clip clips to branches and wreath’s wire base.

DIY Holiday Wreath

Creating this wreath took maybe 20 minutes for me while being distracted by Sons of Anarchy. I LOVE how it turned out. I thought I’d use more reds, but I wanted to break away from the norm. Instead of using a traditional bow, I decided to use 2 flower clips in place of it. I have leftover picks, including the red glass ornaments, which I’ll use on our tree instead. When creating a wreath, the possibilities are endless and you can always swap out the pics/clips each year. If I don’t get around to changing our holiday color scheme next year, I’ll at least be able to update our wreath!

I’m on a roll now between my Greeting Card Branch Holder and wreath. Hopefully I can get some more holiday crafting done!
