No matter what your attraction to an older home, it’s imperative that you are aware that the added charm does come with an assortment of risks that you must protect yourself and family against.
Improve the Appeal & Safety of Your Older Home
A few home improvements will enhance the look and safety of the home. Many of the improvements are easy DIY jobs, eliminating the expense that comes when a professional is brought to the scene. Others are a bit more complicated and will likely require outside help. Choose one project at a time if money is an issue. And, of course, do your research to find the best products and prices.
1- Plumbing Performance
Start with the plumbing system. Many older homes contain old pipes and have had repairs made over the years. Sometimes, these repairs weren’t professionally made and maybe just as risky as the damage. Consider having a whole house water filtration system installed. The roof is one of the home’s most important structures. It’s also susceptible to many different types of damages related to weather, old age, and even UV rays from the sun.
