The home renovation industry is worth approximately $32 billion; it’s hardly surprising that there are so any different options available. But, you don’t need to spend a fortune in order to improve the interior of your home. In fact there are many projects you can easily do yourself.
Paint It
One of the easiest ways to improve the interior of your home is simply to paint it. This will make your home look fresh and new. If you are hoping to sell your home then it is advisable to choose pale or even a white color. However, if you’re doing the improvement just for yourself then you can choose any color you want.
The Balustrades
Replacing the stairs in your home is a big job and not one that everyone would want to take on. But, you can replace the balustrades quite easily.
The best option is to take a look at what Active Metal has to offer. They can supply you with a readymade balustrade or a custom version. All you need to do is fit it to completely transform your home.
This is a particularly good option if your stairs are the first thing you see when you enter your home.
Crown Molding
This improvement is best suited for older houses. Basically you’ll be looking to create a feature at the top of the wall; this will add value to your home and make it look more traditional inside.
This is an easy project to do as the molding is lightweight polystyrene and it can be stuck into place with jointing compound. You will need to cut the corners with a miter to ensure they join nicely.
Lighting
Another easy improvement is to change the lights in your home. You should be able to do this yourself but if you have any concerns over electricity then this is one home improvement that can be left to the experts.
To replace a light you can switch off the power to the lighting circuit; disconnect the wires from one light and then connect them to the new light.
Shutters
It’s very easy to pick up a couple of shutters or even to make them yourself from old wood. A coat of paint and a couple of hinges will transform the window space and allow you to block out the sunlight or even gain some extra privacy.
You can even hang shutters in internal doorways to create an old western saloon feel.
Replace The Kitchen
You don’t need to rip out your entire kitchen in order to improve it. In fact you can transform this room simply by replacing the cupboard doors. Select a bright bold color and you’ll be amazed at how different and contemporary the room will feel.
Flooring
There are several ways in which you can perform a floor improvement; without having to lift the carpet up and replace it.
It’s possible to paint the floor a different color or even create painted squares; mimicking a tile effect. Alternatively rugs can be used or you can even lay a carpet on top of a laminate or wood floor.
There are hundreds of other ideas that you can do yourself; all you need is a little imagination.
