Homeopathic Poison Ivy Relief With Tecnu via @sheenatatum

This summer we’ve had our share of fun enjoying the great outdoors. We’ve hung out at the beach, gone camping, park hopping, and adventured through lush forests. With all of our mingling with nature, we’ve been fortunate enough not to have contracted poison ivy and oak as they are huge during the summer months.

Poison ivy is what nightmares are made of. I have been lucky enough to have never had a poison ivy rash even while playing in close proximity of the plants several times during my childhood. I’ve had my share of other not so fun rashes, so I definitely worry about us, especially the boys getting the painfully itchy weeping rash. There are so many ways to pick it up even being able to identify the plants (which I struggle with) and avoid them isn’t enough.

boyskoa

The poison ivy rash can be contracted simply through the air if the plant is accidentally burned and it can also be transferred through any objects, animals, or people that have come in contact with the plant. That said it’s important to be prepared in the event that we come in contact with the evil villains that are urushiol oils produced by poison ivy and oak plants.

Enter Tecnu Extreme Medicated Poison Ivy Scrub.

Tecnu Extreme is the first all-in-one product that can be used before a rash starts, or after the rash has begun. Plus, it also stops the itching. When a person comes in contact with urushiol, the resin-like substance creates a rash that will surface within about eight hours if not removed. Some people take a day or two to break out with the rash. To use Tecnu Extreme a person should wet the skin and apply a generous amount to the entire body—focusing on exposed skin first (hands, arms, face and legs).

Tecnu Extreme removes the rash causing substance from the skin so the sooner the scrub is applied the better. Best of all, Tecnu Extreme is homeopathic. When it comes to relentless and mortifying conditions like rashes, I get desperate and will use some of anything just to make it go away. But I definitely appreciate that Tec Labs offers a natural solution to keep handy in the event that poison ivy strikes our household.

I’ve not experienced poison ivy, but we have it in our hedges. Years ago my grandmother got in it and her eyes were swollen shut and the itching was horrible. We treated it with Calamine lotion.

I got poison ivy as a child when we went hiking at a local park and found a rope swing in the woods. We had a blast playing on it and falling into the grasses below. Little did we know it was a poison ivy patch. I remember using Calamine Lotion on it but my brother had a bad reaction and ended up in the hospital needing to get steroid shots. It was bad.

I spent summers in Maine where we would go hiking and camping. I have had poison ivy several times and each time I was so miserable. I also felt so stupid as after the first time I would have thought that I would have known better than to even come close to it.

Okay, so I’ve never had poison ivy but I am terrified of walking into hanging leaves for this very reason. The thought of some random bush brushing up against me and it potentially being poison ivy/oak FREAKS ME OUT! Soooo, no experiences but at least I know what to scoop up should I get unlucky.

I grew up in the Black Hills and, one of the first things you learn as a kid, is how to identify poison ivy and poison oak. Then so, I still came in contact with it a couple of times.

While cleaning up weeds in the backyard I immediately felt a burning/itching after touching what I thought was a weed. I wasn’t wearing gloves and I immediately went to the kitchen and rinsed my hand with water. I still ended up with a minor rash and itching. Ialways wear gloves when weeding now and I need to get some Tecnu FIrst Aid Gel to be ready if it happened again.

I’ve never had a run-in with poison ivy, but I do have sensitive skin that bursts into a rash with even things like some sunscreens and insect repellents, so I am hoping to never wind up touching poison ivy by mistake. I’m thinking a wash like that might do my rash-prone skin good for other irritants!

Thankfully I’ve never had poison ivy, but my husband is a surveyor, so he’s always among the brush and weeds and gets it nearly every year. I don’t think he has the option to get somewhere to wash once he noticed he’s been in it, but if so I bet he’d love to try this! Most years he doesn’t get it too bad, but sometimes he has to go to the doctor and get meds.

I apparently am immune to poison ivy. My daughter had it all over her body when she was about 5 years old. My husband got it just from handling the goofy doll that she slept with and carried around with her while I never got it even though I had constant contact with her oozing rash. My mother always told the story of how my uncle (her brother) got poison ivy and got to stay home from school so she rubbed it all over her body so she could stay home from school. She never got it so I guess I inherited immunity from her.

Very informative, Sophistishe. I actually ran into poison ivy this summer at our family lakehouse. We researched it, but I didn’t know you could contract it so easily. I will share this information with my family next summer. Thank goodness, we were not victims.
“poison ivy rash can be contracted simply through the air if the plant is accidentally burned and it can also be transferred through any objects, animals, or people that have come in contact with it” -Thank you and I also shared on my fb business page. People need to know. Great read.
