How to Find Inspiration for Losing Weight

People often want to lose weight but find it hard to stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine. It’s really easy to lose inspiration quickly when the couch and a big bag of chips are sitting there calling your name. Check out these tips to learn how to find inspiration for losing weight so you stay on track.

Surround Yourself with Success

Reading weight loss stories is a great way to stay motivated and on track. To find people who frequently share weight loss stories scour Instagram, Facebook groups, and blogs about weight loss, diet, and exercise. Talk to and network with people online who are also working to lose weight and have them share their success stories and wins with you.

Practice Self-Love Regularly

You’ve probably heard that it’s important for you to love yourself if you want to meet your goals on a regular basis, but what if you aren’t happy with yourself? Loving yourself isn’t something you can switch off and on with the snap of your fingers.

To fall in love with yourself again, you should practice self-love on a daily basis. Some activities to consider include:

  • Saying affirmations several times per day
  • Keeping a gratitude journal
  • Take time daily to do things that make you happy
  • Make an effort to accept things you can’t change
  • Be okay with saying, “no” when you don’t want to do something

Set Goals

If you don’t know what you want to achieve, it’s hard to create a plan you can stick to. However, at the same time, it’s important that you don’t set unrealistic, unachievable goals for yourself. Instead, create one main goal and then set smaller goals to reach along the way. For example, you might have an overall goal of losing 50 pounds, but instead of focusing on that, you might set a goal to cut carbs from your diet completely or lose five pounds. Focusing on smaller, more achievable goals helps keep you motivated long-term.

Work on Your Mindset

Before you start on a new weight loss journey, you need to make sure you’re in the right frame of mind. Of course, loving and accepting who you are is important, but if you don’t have a powerful reason for losing weight, it’s a lot easier to quit. Take some time to think about why you want to lose weight. Then, write down your “why” and review it on a daily basis.

It’s also important to surround yourself with as much positivity as possible. This helps keep you from falling back into unhealthy beliefs and beauty myths with no truth to them at all.

Be Committed

You can’t be successful without committing to your goals. If you want to lose weight, you need to commit to making specific changes in your life and follow through with them daily. It’s often a good idea to start slowly, though. Commit to small changes you can make that put you closer to achieving your main goal. For example, if you don’t exercise regularly, don’t go out and join a gym or purchase expensive equipment. Instead, focus on committing yourself to taking a walk once or twice per day. Then, once you’re so committed to your walks that you do it without thinking, take it up a notch.

It can be difficult to stay motivated or find inspiration when you’re trying to lose weight, but it isn’t impossible. You just need to take smaller steps instead of focusing on making major changes all at once. This way losing weight doesn’t become so difficult and overwhelming that you give up altogether.
