Are Americans More Likely to Get Divorced Than in Other Parts of the World?

Divorce is one of the most traumatic things that can happen in a person’s life. While no couple enters a marriage expecting that it will end in divorce, it does happen far too often and this can have a lasting impact that is akin to your spouse passing on.

Sadly, it can be even more traumatic than death. Many divorces lead to bitter disputes, battling over finances, property, child custody, and personal items. Crazy accusations are made and lives can be left in tatters. It is a very trying time.

Becoming Far Too Common

What is troubling about divorce is that it is becoming far more common than you would think. More couples are ending their marriage and this is not just a phenomenon in America. According to data on bestcasinosites.net, the odds on one getting divorced are increasing all over the globe.

However, this is not something that is nearly as common in parts of the world that are considered “undeveloped.” It is in places like Europe and North America where divorces are far more common. They are not seen in significant numbers in Africa, Asia, South America where the bond is considered far more sacred.

A Changing Attitude about Marriage

It is every little girl’s dream to have the ideal wedding. A showcase event where everything is perfect. Even when there is doubt lingering because of rising divorce numbers, girls like to believe that their marriage is going to be different. They are going to have an amazing wedding, with a beautiful gown, incredible church, and a fancy banquet hall.

Unfortunately, the beautiful day sours faster than it should. The love that couple has for one another does not burn as brightly as they proclaimed in their wedding vows, and it is not long before they are racing each other to find the best attorney to put the other in his or her place.

Is My Marriage Doomed to Fail?

As you read this, it is the question you may be asking. If you are a newly engaged couple you may be wondering if you should put yourself through the challenges of getting married knowing there is a good possibility the marriage will end. For those whose marriage is seeing a rocky patch, you may be wondering if you are in the death throes as it seems that it is only a matter of time before the marriage is over.

Adding to your concerns is the rate of divorce in America. According to a study, it was found that 16.9 out of every 1000 marriages in the United States will end in divorce. The survey found that 50 percent of all marriages will end in divorce and that 41 percent of all first marriages end in the legal proceeding.

However, the news is not all bad. According to that same survey, the rate of divorce is declining over the last 30 years. What is exactly spurring the improved rate of the marriage vow is not discussed, but there are several factors that may play a part, including a greater initial pool of options to find the ideal spouse, and a greater ability to communicate with one another, especially when separated due to a work related trip.

Still Not the Worst

While the numbers remain troubling in the United States, the reality is that they are not the worst. The odds are far more likely that one will get divorced in Russia or Belarus than in the United States. However, the American odds are still deplorable.

Russia has the highest divorce rate per 1000 people, giving odds of 0.649% that your marriage will end in divorce. Belarus follows closely behind at 4.2 divorces per 1000, a 0.585% chance. The U.S. and Gibraltar come in third at 0.529%.

Those are staggering numbers, but what should be of greater concern is the rate of divorce in Europe as a whole. Of the top 20 countries in terms of the highest odds to get divorced, Europe has 15 of those nations. Only the United States, Cuba, and Costa Rica crack the list in the Western Hemisphere, with Jordan and Libya being the other two countries.

There is clearly a complete devaluation of the importance of staying in a marriage or it may be a case where it simply too easy for one to get divorced if they so choose.

In the United States, the rate is on the decline and should continue to decrease. As more younger people are opting to either not get married or to wait until they are much older, this should help to decrease the rate of divorces. Hopefully, people will have a deeper commitment to this most sacred vow so that the number will plummet even further.
