Meals On-the-Go

Sometimes, it’s not always easy to find time to sit at the dinner table every night. With work, school, and afterschool activities, your time may be limited. On-the-go meals are ideal for busy individuals because no matter how busy you are, you still need to eat. If you have one day to set aside for meal prepping for the upcoming week, it’ll end up saving you a lot of time. If you don’t, that’s okay, because there are many options for fast and easy on-the-go options. It can also help to make extra for dinners so you can take your leftovers for lunch the next day.

Not a lot of people have time to eat breakfast before heading out the door in the morning. Morning on-the-go meals can be as easy as grabbing a muffin and tossing it into your lunch box, or meal prepping ahead of time with things like overnight oats, omelettes, baked breakfast cookies, or peanut butter, strawberry and banana quesadillas. Other convenient on-the-go options for breakfast include:

  • Instant oatmeal cups
  • Fresh fruit
  • Coffee cake
  • Breakfast smoothies with fresh fruit and veggies
  • Berry breakfast parfaits
  • Peanut butter and banana smoothie
  • Ham and cheese quinoa cups

It can help satisfy your hunger if you make breakfast the most important meal of your day, and it can also help you focus and do better at work and school. Load up on healthy fruits, grains, and lean dairy options. It’ll take time and commitment, but eating breakfast in the morning can end up becoming a simple routine you no longer have to think twice about.

For most people, they’re never home at lunchtime. A lot of people choose delivery or go out to eat for their lunch breaks, but you can save yourself some money and ensure you eat a well-balanced meal if you plan accordingly. This just means knowing ahead of time what you plan on bringing for lunch so you don’t need to spend that extra money at the fast-food drive-through. Some options for on-the-go lunches include:

  • Mini taco bowls
  • Burrito bowl
  • Salads
  • Sandwiches
  • Stuffed pitas
  • Vegetable stir-fry bowls
  • Zucchini noodles with meat sauce
  • White bean soup
  • Veggie wraps
  • Stuffed avocados
  • Cobb salad with chicken

When it comes to lunches, you can easily prep ahead of time and plan your meals out for the upcoming week. If you’re okay with having the same thing every day for the week, you can get that prepped, so that all you need to do is grab it from the fridge before work and slip it into your lunch box.

If you work a late shift or your children have a variety of after school activities to attend, you may find it’s hard to make it home for dinner every night. On-the-go dinner options just make it easier to make sure everyone is fed at a reasonable time while saving you money, too. Some savory options for grab and go dinners include:

  • Ham and swiss slab pie
  • Broccoli cheddar soup mini pies
  • Baked and cheese rollups
  • Whole-wheat barbeque chicken calzones
  • Sandwiches of various kinds
  • Quesadillas which you can customize any way you’d like
  • Baked chicken fingers
  • Veggie burritos

You also want to consider snacks to make sure you’re not starving between your meals. Make sure to pack some fresh fruit and vegetables. Yogurt with fresh fruit is also a good option. Whole-grain crackers and breads are also healthy snack ideas that you can pack in your lunch box. Ensure you get proper protein by adding slices of deli meat, which you can eat with cheeses and whole-grain crackers.
