It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like a Nursery

After three babies, baby Akilah is the one who lucked up on having a nursery space. Albeit unintentional, I am loving it. I guess because I’m getting to enjoy all the little things that I didn’t have the opportunity to with the boys. That’s not to say that there were things that I wished they had. We just did what worked best for us at the time. With Jayden, we actually planned on having a nursery, but realized we didn’t need one. We returned his crib and 7 years later (ha!), sold his unused jungle crib bedding.

Instead of a nursery, he slept in a Playard beside the bed, then we co-slept in bed with us. Jaxon slept in a co-sleeper bassinet attached to the bed and when he grew out of that, we co-slept. By that time, Daddy had turned the living room into his sleeping quarters. Baby Akilah also slept in the same co-sleeper and once she outgrew it, we co-slept, but her bed shenanigans ultimately got her put out (lol).

I saw a neat little IKEA crib co-sleeper hack and decided that would be her solution. So for her first birthday, she got a crib from my in-laws and now I have my bed back. I’ve had my share of little feet in my ribs and little booties plopped on my head through the night so it was time mama had some space. I still bring her in my bed to nurse, but it’s back to her bed unless I’m feeling snuggly.

All of this rambling to say that it’s beginning to look a lot like a nursery up in here and I’m enjoying it. This is the last time we’ll proooobably have a baby in the house, so I’m basking in this and the newness of having a baby girl. That said, I’ve been adding accents and things to her little space and for Christmas, I have a few things on her wishlist for the wall.

One of the things that we’ve waited to get and I’m glad we did, was a diaper pail. I went back and forth between wanting a white pail and a pink pail, because YOLO! I thought I would be one of those parents that would be anti-pink, but I’m here for the pink and I think I do a good job at balancing it out.

Back to the diaper pail situation.

Miss Honey’s diapers have been on the funky side now that she’s loving her solids, so I’ve had to revisit getting a diaper pail. The folks at Playtex Baby sent us their new Diaper Genie Expressions customizable pail with sleeves. The pail has been peeerfect for our needs. Aside from keeping the stink out, it looks awesome in Akilah’s nursery space.

We were sent all five trendy fabric sleeves and the pink and grey shades work really well the pops of pink and grey already in our room. I’m on a minimalist kick, so I am all about creating lighter spaces and Diaper Genie Expressions fit the bill. I’m excited to see if there will be new sleeves for bolder nurseries. I think a black and white striped sleeve would be a hit for those with monochromatic nurseries.

The Diaper Genie Expressions pail is one of a few additions to baby Akilah’s nursery space that’s not only functional, but also great to look at. I’m having fun with this nursery thing, so I’ll be back to share little touches that I add here and there. I want to do a mini gallery wall and possibly a DIY crib skirt.

If you’d like to get the new Diaper Genie Expressions for your bub, you can find the pail and sleeves at most retailers like Target, Babies “R” Us, and Amazon. Just a note, Expressions sleeves are sold separately from the Diaper Genie Expressions pail so be sure to pick up the sleeve of your choice with the pail.

I love the design of the fabric covers. I co-slept with my daughter for a long time. She likes her bed now (most of the time lol).

What a pretty nursery. And that Diaper Genie is such a great addition. Wish I had one when my son was a baby.

What a cozy nursery. I never had a diaper genie when my kids were little but I wish I had one.

The Diaper Genie Expressions pail will make a great baby shower gift for my friend. I like how fashionable they are now.
