Our New Bedroom Is Now Refreshed

quickbedroomrefresh

I haven’t shown much of our bedroom because it has, for as long as I remember, been a disaster. Of all the rooms in our home, it was in the worst shape and it has taken us moving to finally get it together. Soon after our move, I was challenged by Walmart to do a budget-friendly room refresh. Perfect timing! It was the motivation I needed to make the space cozier. We often put ourselves last and in this season it’s been so important to do things for “us”.

Our old room had white walls, so moving to a place with cream-colored walls helped warm up the space immediately. While at our old place, I purchased a BHG bedding set (similar), curtains (crushed taffeta), and some pillow covers on Etsy (2 for $14.95 at Modernality). And that’s as far as I got.

Our bedroom now doubles as an office, so I’ll be showing that side of the room in the future. For now, let’s focus on the bedroom-y things.

Remember, we just moved, so things were cray!

So to continue our bedroom makeover, I headed to Walmart to pick up a few items. I knew that I wanted to create a gallery wall above our bed that we’d continue to add on to. I picked up four white 8×10 frames by Mainstays under $4 each to display some printables I’ve been collecting (one / two / three). Printables are such a great way to decorate on a dime, especially when they are free! Printables are saving my LIFE! While browsing frames, I spotted a canvas that read “Live what you love”. It’s my motto, so I had to have it. There was a selection of other trendy styles… at $11 per piece, I’ll definitely be back for more.

So I have a bit of an addition to plush throws. They are so buttery soft and a great way to add texture and patterns to any space. At $8, I couldn’t pass up the Mainstays white and grey hexagon throw. To end my shopping trip, I grabbed a BHG lamp shade for a lamp spray paint makeover. I couldn’t figure out which one would better fit the space, so I bought both on two separate trips. After seeing them both in front of the grey curtains, the medallion shade (similar) stood out more than my darling ikat shade. Both shades were under $9 a piece so I see it as no money wasted. I will definitely find a spot for the ikat shade. Oh! I also grabbed another curtain panel to cover a breaker box we have next to our second window. Because ew. Extending the curtain rod and adding an additional panel took care of that eyesore.

The changing backdrops/dresser was a curb find.

So in addition to the gallery wall, I hung up a philodendron (still in its pot) that I placed in a cocoa planter lined in plastic. I already had the basket from our patio, but picked up a cocoa liner when I spruced up our front yard. Plants give me life. So that was a must along with the artificial flowers I kind of mounted in the corner on my side of the bed. I finished my corner with a Jamaican plaque that my aunt gave me. I’m partnering up with Sauder on a feature, so the chair next to the dresser is courtesy of Sauder. Love, love, love it!

So this concludes half of our bedroom makeover (office area in the works!). We’re so happy with our room now. Greg was wowed when he discovered what I had done to the space. All we need is a rug and maybe some white wood wall planks in the future. I’m currently lusting after the Orleans Geometric rug from the new Libby Langdon collection. It’s bright, modern, and so unique that I must have it. The color scheme is so perfect. I need it in my life.

Have you checked out the Libby Langdon collection at Walmart? What room would you refresh with one of her pieces?
