Self-Care Tips to Help You Feel Your Best

It’s so important to take care of yourself in both mind and body, but it’s not always easy to find the time. If you’re a parent, you’ll know how hard it can be to look after yourself and your kids, but you can’t take care of others unless you take care of yourself too. So, here are four self-care tips to help you feel your best.

1. Drink Your Water

Drinking water is so important, but many people just aren’t drinking enough of it to stay properly hydrated. You should drink at least 11.5 cups of fluids every day — around 2.7 liters. If you feel thirsty, that means you’re already starting to become dehydrated, so you need to drink ASAP!

If you find it difficult to drink enough water, try:

  • Carrying a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go
  • Setting reminders on your phone every half hour
  • Drinking a full glass of water before each meal
  • Drinking a full glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning
  • Setting targets and giving yourself rewards when you reach them

Drinking enough water will allow your body to function at a higher level; it can clear your skin, make it easier to sleep, normalize your blood pressure, and even give you more energy.

Seriously, just drink more water. Your body will thank you for it.

2. Look After Your Teeth

It’s easy to neglect your teeth. Sure, you might brush twice a day, but do you really follow all of your dentist’s advice? Do you floss? You should!

Your teeth and smile can frame your whole face, and when your teeth look good, you’ll be more likely to show them off with a big grin. Visit the dentist regularly — try Biltmore Avenue Family Dentistry, which you can find at bafdentistry.com — and make sure your dental hygiene is a priority.

3. Get More Sleep

It’s extremely common for parents to get too little sleep. In fact, according to a survey by the National Sleep Foundation, almost three-quarters of stay-at-home mothers show symptoms of insomnia

It makes sense: Your kids are your top priority, and once they’ve gone to bed, you probably have other things you need to get done. However, getting enough sleep (7 to 9 hours) will allow your body time to recharge, and you’ll feel better both mentally and physically.

Here are some tips to help you if you struggle to fall asleep:

  • Take a warm bath or shower before bed
  • Open the window to keep the room cool
  • Try doing a sleep meditation
  • Invest in a white noise machine

If you sleep better, you’ll feel better. It’s simple.

4. Move Your Body

Everyone knows that exercise is important, but it can be super challenging to find time to go to the gym or go running. Your body craves exercise, though, so try to do anything you can to move your body more.

Put your workout gear on first thing in the morning, even if you aren’t sure if you’ll have time to exercise. Once you’re already in the right clothes, it’s just one less thing that’s stopping you.

Follow these tips for self-care to see if you feel better. Your mental and physical health will improve, and you’ll feel like a brand new person!
