Your water tank is essential to ensure you have a steady flow of water. You’ve probably got a sophisticated system to filter your water and ensure it’s safe to drink.  But, how often do you think about your water pump?

Your system is useless if this breaks. Of course, it can be replaced but a well-maintained system will last for longer and be less likely to give you issues. The key is to choose a reliable water pump, such as these great mine dewatering pumps. This will make servicing easier and help to ensure longevity.

It can also help to be aware of the most common water tank pump issues. This will allow you to address them and extend the life of service of your pump.

Reduced Flow or Pressure

One of the biggest clues that you have an issue with your water pump is when the flow is reduced or the pressure low. The most common cause of this, other than a lack of water in your tank, is a problem with the pump.

It can be worth checking your pump, pipes, and filters to ensure there are no blockages; these can prevent your pump from delivering water at the right flow rate. If you can’t find any you should suspect there is an issue with the actual pump.

No Water

This is effectively the same as reduced flow. You either have a blockage or your pump has given up. In most cases, the pump failure will have been preceded by reduced flow and pressure. These are the signs that there is an issue.

Short Cycling

Another common issue with water pumps, especially those that haven’t been serviced regularly, is short cycles.

In most cases, your pump will happily run for a long period. When this changes and it runs for a short cycle before cutting off and then restarting, you probably have a problem with the auto pressure control module.

Short cycles can also be a sign that you have a water leak, it’s worth checking your system.

You should note that pumps that start and stop all the time will wear out faster and they will find it more difficult to control the water pressure. Dealing with this issue early can save you a lot of money and hassle in the future.

Don’t forget, pumps that aren’t working properly will often develop overheating issues, which can be fatal for your pump.

Dealing With Water Tank Pump Issues

The simplest solution is to call your local specialist. They will know the pump and your setup, allowing them to identify the issue and rectify it. In many cases, they can do this faster than you can work out the issue. Their work is also guaranteed, giving you peace of mind.

Of course, using the professionals to service your pump annually will reduce the likelihood of issues occurring. This is because they can spot potential faults early and give you the opportunity to rectify them before they become serious.
