Ditch the accent walls

First of all, if you want a small bedroom space to seem larger then using accent walls either painted or with wallpaper is a bad idea. This is because they can draw the eye and so create a sense of compression. Instead, the best approach is to paint the walls in one consistent color. By using this technique you will avoid creating a focal point, which in turn gives off the impression that the space is larger.

Lighter and softer colors in particular work well to make a space feel enlarged. They also help to create a restful sleep space when we’re drifting off at night.

Pick the right furniture pieces

Your choice of furniture is essential for making a smaller bedroom seem large. First of all, it’s vital that you do not have too much of the stuff because this can break up the sightlines in a room and make it seem even smaller and cluttered.

Secondly, getting a balance between utility and space is vital. That is why furniture items like these Wiemann wardrobes with sliding doors are perfect. The reason is that they offer plenty of room inside, and provide easy access with doors that don’t take up any room when opened.

Lastly, being smart about your bed can make all the difference in a small room. Opt for a low-profile bed frame that has no headboard and is close to the floor. This will create the illusion of more space above and around your bed.

Use mirror surfaces

Mirrors are great in any small place because they reflect and bounce light, giving the appearance of a larger space. Where possible, position the mirrors so they reflect the most expansive space in the room. For example, position a mirror so it reflects the view from a window, thereby creating another window-like space on an otherwise solid wall.

Choose pale flooring

Whether you are going for hardwood floors, laminate or carpet, a lighter shade of flooring such as white, or cream is usually the best option. This is because it will not create such a distinct line between the walls and the floor, and help to make your space more visually expansive.

Be mindful of your decoration

It’s not that you can use decoration in a small room, it’s that you have to be more mindful and intentional about it. Decorative objectives should be using sparing and placed singly on surfaces so they make the areas around them look larger.
Wall art should be big, and oversized where possible because this helps to disrupt the perspective in the room, giving the eye something large to focus on. On the other hand, using lots of smaller pieces of art on the walls is a bad idea as it reinforces the idea that you are in a small space.
