What to Wear on a Long Haul Flight to Singapore

Singapore is a fabulous place to visit. There’s plenty to do and see, and it’s easy to explore both modern Singapore, with high rise skyscrapers, modern architecture and globally successful businesses, and traditional Singapore, with culture, nature and family-run shops and restaurants as they sit side by side in many areas. Surrounded by tropical plants and trees which frame the unique cityscapes.

Visit choa chu kang, and you’ll see an evolved area and an accurate representation of Singaporean modern urban lifestyle. If you’ve got a break to Singapore planned, you’ve probably already got a massive list of things that you want to do and places that you want to visit. But, the flight might be giving you some worries.

Long haul flights aren’t the same a short hop across the country. Long distance travel often means a significantly more comfortable plane with plenty of added extras and comforts. But, it’s never going to be comfortable. Which is why what you wear is important.

The climate in Singapore can also make dressing, and packing difficult. It’s warm all year round. But, it’s also exceptionally humid, and it rains for at least ten days most months. There are also monsoon seasons to navigate, and despite warm temperatures, you’ll need layers and waterproofs. Most modern buildings also take full advantage of their air conditioning units to minimize the discomfort of the warm and humid air. This means that you’ll need some warmer clothes to avoid getting cold indoors.

Usually, we like to travel in our heavier clothes, to save space in our suitcases and make them lighter. But, on a long haul flight, this is unlikely to be ideal. Here are some tips to help you dress for your flight to Singapore, as well as some things that you might want to take on the plane with you.

Comfortable Shoes

On the plane, you are likely to want to take your shoes off. But, getting to the airport, standing around in queues and walking around in the airport is tough on your feet. You’ll want comfortable shoes, but also ones that are easy to slip on and off, in case you need to take them off at security, and so you can quickly slip them off on the plane without anyone seeing. Flat, light pumps are perfect.

Compression Socks

Compression socks help prevent DVT on long-haul flights, but they also mean that you are still comfortable and warm when you take your shoes off.

A Lightweight Jacket

Airports and planes aren’t always warm, and you never know what the weather will be like before you get on and once you get off. A lightweight jacket is ideal, just make sure you can get it on and off easily and that it rolls up into your bag.

Loose Bottoms

The last thing that you want is to be sitting on a plane in super tight, thick jeans for hours at a time. They’ll get sweaty and uncomfortable, and they’ll be terrible for your circulation. Light pants, like wide trousers and linen pants with a stretchy waistband, are comfortable and slouchy, but they’ll still look good at the airport.

Cotton T-Shirt

Again, nothing too tight, and certainly nothing that you will be worrying about keeping in the right position. A loose-fitting cotton t-shirt is perfect for a long haul flight.

A Comfy Hoodie

If there is one thing that you don’t want to be without on your flight, it’s a comfy, baggy hoodie. It’ll keep you warm, it looks great, and it’ll keep you comfortable and give you a little privacy if you want to sleep during the journey. Which you will. Pick an old favorite that comforts you and smells like home, instead of something new that still feels like a shop.

An Oversized Scarf

An oversized scarf or a pashmina gives you options. It looks good. It keeps you warm. It folds up easily in your bag. But, it also quickly folds into a make-do pillow or opens up into a blanket.

Large Underwear

You get dressed the morning of your flight, you might then be in those clothes, walking around, sat still, in warm rooms and cold rooms, for over 24 hours. You don’t want pretty underwear, and you certainly don’t want anything digging in during the flight. Large underwear is comfortable, and frankly more hygienic on a long trip.

A Backpack

You might want to take a stylish bag, but a backpack is perfect. It’s safe and secure, but big enough to keep your extra layers. Ideally chose on with a separate secure pocket for passports and tickets. But with plenty of room for books, devices, earplugs, and snacks.
