12 Reasons Why I’m Glad to Be Done with Diapers!

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers!

Sheena: I thought I was on my way to being free of diapers, but then baby Akilah made her debut. So here we go again! Since my blog friend, Racquel, recently went diaper-free, I asked her to share why she’s glad to be done with diapers. She was able to come up with TWELVE whole reasons why she’s done with with the madness that are diapers. If you can relate to the hilarity in this post, share your diapering stories in the comments below and share this post with a friend!

12 Reasons Why I’m Glad to Be Done with Diapers!

1. My House Doesn’t Constantly Smell Like Poop Anymore

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

We have 7 kids between us, 6 boys and 1 girl.  The 3 youngest are 2, 3, and 4.  No matter how you bag a dirty diaper, what kind of diaper pail you use, or what you do, when you have 3 boys in various stages of diapers or training pants, your house ALWAYS smells like poop.  Of course for the next 15 years it will smell like fart but….

2. Never Having to Ask the Question “Are You Poopy?” Again

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

In all the years that I have had a diaper wearing child, I cannot even begin to imagine the number of times I have asked that question.  Or how many times I’ve not gotten an honest answer…

3. No More Blow Outs. EVER AGAIN

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

You know what I’m talking about.  The dirty diaper that takes over the world?  That reaches from the back of your child’s neck to their ankles and has somehow oozed out all over everything your child has come into contact with…in a public place…like a restaurant that you’ll never show your face in again because the staff thought they were witness to a horror film.  I speak from experience.  I think my husband considered washing our son off in the urinal, it was that bad.

4. The Expense of Diapers, Wipes, and Training Pants

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

3 boys in 3 years.  Boys just don’t potty train all that quickly or early, at least not mine.  3 years of diapering 3 butts full time + 2 years of 2 butts full time + 1 butt who potty trained a little more quickly so it wasn’t another full year = a number that I honestly am not even willing to calculate because I would more than likely throw up on my computer while typing or pass out and hit my head on the desk.  Diapering your child is expensive.  Diapering multiples is bank-breaking.

5. The Sniff

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

We all know we have done it.  It’s my husband’s go-to way of checking to see if a child has pooped.  I will not miss sniffing butts or watching the man I love more than life itself sniff the butts of the little people I love more than life itself.

6. No More Stop, Drop and Change a Diaper

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

You know it always happens when you’re busy when you’re in the middle of something important when there is something else you really need to do.  Dinner is cooking, the pasta is going to boil over but that diaper needs to be changed NOW.  It’s kind of like how you were taught if something you were wearing caught on fire – to stop, drop, and roll.  A child who has a diaper that needs to be changed demands that same attention – stop & drop whatever you are doing, drop to your knees on the floor and change said child.  I will not miss this.  I enjoy not being needed in every potty experience of every child in my home.

7. Never Finding a Disposable Diaper in the Washing Machine Again

Have you ever seen what happens to disposable diapers at the pool or lake?  You know, all that gel-like stuff that swells up and makes a mess.  The reason they ask you to wear swim diapers at the pool.  Well, it’s even worse when it’s exploded all over the inside of your washing machine with an entire load of freshly washed clothes.  It’s never happened with a dirty diaper but I assure you, an unused disposable diaper that gets grabbed up with clothing and tossed in the washer is a horrible mess.

8. Not Packing a Diaper Bag

We still pack a bag when we leave home even for day trips but I don’t miss it having to be packed full of diapers, wipes, extra clothes in case of those nasty blowouts, diaper rash cream, a changing pad, and every other imaginable necessity under the sun.

9. Not Having to Creatively Change Diapers

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

On my lap while I sit on the toilet in a dirty public restroom.  In the back of our vehicle.  On a park bench.  On a sink.  While my child is standing up and the diaper is crooked and sideways and looking more like a thong.  Too many places still have no changing stations or aren’t clean enough to put your child down to change a diaper.  I am glad to be done with this.

10. Never Sticking My Finger in a Dirty Diaper Again

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

Whether it’s been pulling the back of a diaper or leg hole open to peek inside and see if it was dirty or done when opening it to change a child.  I will not miss sticking my finger in my child’s dirty diaper or finding that I have poop on my hands or any other part of my body.

11. Never Having to Question What My Child Ate After Seeing Diaper Contents

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

Recently one of our toddlers ate a penny.  He told us right away and we had to watch for him to pass it.  It’s not one of the more glamorous parts of parenting.  I won’t miss changing a diaper and wonder what in the world my child ate.

12. Never Having a Child Pee or Poop in a Freshly Changed Diaper Again

12 Reasons Why I'm Glad to Be Done with Diapers

I know that when you have to go, you have to go.  It’s part of life.  I swear my boys timing was something else though.  I could change a wet diaper and 30 seconds later they would poop in it or when they were really little, if my timing was really bad they would poop DURING the diaper change!

I was laughing aloud! I remember these days - so glad they're behind me now! Those blowouts, especially when you weren't prepared and in a public place! GROSS! And so glad not to have that smell of diapers and wipes!

Could not agree with you more. As the mom of FOUR born in a year (incl TRIPLETS) who were all in diapers at the same time, I'm glad to have a chance to rest up LOL before the grandkids start needing me to help change their diapers!

I remember the getting rid of diapers and moving to pull ups very well. The last time I used diapers was with my twins, so you know I was really glad to be done with diapers.
